The visual album for Beyoncé‘s Lemonade has been nominated for four Emmy awards. It was reported soon after Beyoncé’s critically-acclaimed album was released that HBO submitted Lemonade’s visual component for Emmy consideration.
Today’s unveiling of the 2016 Emmy Awards nominations revealed that the short film is up for Outstanding Variety Special; Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, Nonfiction, Event or Award Special; Outstanding Picture Editing for a Variety Special, and that Beyoncé is nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, along with Khalil Joseph.
A total of seven filmmakers worked on the project, but only Joseph and Beyoncé were credited as co-directors.
Lemonade will compete against Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo, CBS’s The Kennedy Center Honors, CBS’s The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Prime Time Special, and NBC’s Adele Live in New York City. This is Beyoncé’s third Emmy nomination as she was previously given nods for her Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show and her HBO On the Run Tour concert special, but she has yet to win.
Place hot sauce in your bag as a good luck charm until the Emmy Awards air on Sept. 18, 2016, at 7 p.m. EST on ABC.
