If you suffer with oily skin, summer tends to spell a complexion nightmare but, it doesn’t have to be this way.
A celebrity makeup artist may have just found the solution in the form of Milk of Magnesia.
Milk of Magnesia has long been used to ease indigestion and treat ulcers but one makeup artists to the stars, Julianne Kaye, claims it works wonders as a primer. For those that may not know about this hero product, Primer is used to keep your makeup in place, going on top of your moisturiser and below your foundation, tinted moisturiser or powder. It’s an essential item for when heat threatens to melt all your makeup off on hot summer days.
Commenting to the Daily Mail, Kaye says: “A lot of the water-based primers on the market just feel like another moisturiser and the silicone-based primers feel waxy or, while they’ll matt you down, they still don’t stick – when you put milk of magnesia on your face you can actually feel that veil over the skin.”
So why is it supposedly so effective? Well, the high levels of magnesium found in the liquid works to break down excess oil on your skin which balances the skin and in turn makes for a more even base.
Miss Kaye, who’s done the makeup for the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Kate Hudson and Cindy Crawford, says it has long been a secret amongst A-list makeup artists but now, thanks to social media, is being embraced by the mainstream.
If you don’t have oily skin but struggle with your makeup in the heat, don’t fret. GLAMOUR’s beauty director, Alessandra Steinherr, tells you how to weather-proof your makeup right here. There’s a solution for you, whatever your skin type.
Please note: we haven’t tried this and if you are going to, it’s absolutely necessary that you do a patch test before putting it on your face.
