Dwyane Wade’s cousin was shot and killed in Chicago, Ill. while walking the streets with her baby.
32-year-old Nykea Aldridge was reportedly walking to register her children for school on Friday (Aug. 26, 2016) when two men walked up and fired shots at a third man but hit Aldridge in the head and arm. She was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly afterwards, while the child in the stroller was unharmed.
The NBA star, who was first cousins with the mother of four, mourned her on Twitter. “My cousin was killed today in Chicago,” he wrote. “Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough.”
To make matters worse for Wade, Donald Trump decided to use what happened for his own political gain. The Republican presidential nominee took to Twitter following the shooting to say this: “Dwyane Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!”
Trump’s tweet was immediately slammed by many on social media, including actor Don Cheadle, Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams, and more.
