Thomas Gibson has been fired from Criminal Minds after he was issued a two-week suspension for kicking a producer in the shin.
The producers of the CBS series announced on Friday (Aug. 12, 2016) that he will not return for the Season 12 when it returns on Sept. 28.
“Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds,” reads a statement from ABC Studios and CBS Studios. “Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”
Gibson was suspended from the show earlier in the week after getting into a physical altercation with a writer-producer, who is speculated to be Virgil Williams.
“There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement,” said Gibson in an earlier statement. “I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and we always will.”
Gibson was sent to anger management classes several years ago when he allegedly pushed an A.D. from the same series. TV Line speculates that his character, Aaron Hotchner, will likely “be sent away on special assignment in Season 12’s third episode.”
