The trouser suit is having a resurgence. Thanks largely to Gucci, the two-piece is officially back, with fans including Alexa Chung, Kristen Stewart and Olivia Palermo.
While not all of us can afford Gucci prices (their suits come at around £2,000), we don’t necessarily want a high street copy either. Step forward Hebe Studio, a newly launched Italian label specialising in custom-made suits inspired by Armani and Saint Laurent for around £500 – not bad considering a Savile Row bespoke suit costs around £4,200.
The brand was founded by three friends – Gea Antonini, Laura Zama and Federica Croce – whose culminative credentials include Valentino, Vera Wang and Roberto Cavalli. They loved suits and how powerful they made them feel, but couldn’t find any that felt feminine, beautifully made and in colours that weren’t corporate or too serious. And that’s the point of difference for Hebe – the suits come in 37 different colour ways and in three different styles, all of which can be worn with heels or trainers for a more relaxed look.
There’s the boyfriend fit, which features a loose, cropped straight leg trouser; the girlfriend with Katharine Hepburn-esque wide leg palazzo pants; and the smoking, a tailored style with the added sporty edge of contrast piping running along the trousers. All but the smoking goes without the collar to prevent the look feeling too heavy.
They’re sharp but playful, and frankly, who wouldn’t want to dress like a modern Katharine Hepburn?
