Calling all mothers and mothers-to-be, we have news of a very exciting childrenswear collaboration.
If Roitfeld’s lineage weren’t enough to convince you that she knows what she’s doing when it comes to clothes (her mum is former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld), then perhaps her hugely successful website, Romy and the Bunnies will – an online platform offering lifestyle inspiration for modern mums, named after her own daughter, Romy.
“When River Island approached me to design a kids collection, it made perfect sense,” Roitfeld told us. “They have done previous womenswear collaborations, but not childrenswear. With my website, Romy and the Bunnies, it seemed to me an amazing opportunity to share a bit more of my aesthetic and introduce people to my brand.”
The 30-piece-strong collection is inspired by Roitfeld’s own upbringing, where her wardrobe consisted of unique finds her mum would source on her travels as a fashion editor – from vintage denim, surplus items and folkloric pieces.
“The collection is based on that – my old Victorian vintage dresses mixed with vintage Oshkosh overalls and knits mum would bring back from Peru or Norway,” she said. “Each piece reminds me a particular outfit from back then when I was a small child.”
