Think of Jessica Alba‘s beauty and you think glowing skin, enviable locks and a radiance that would make a mere mortal wilt. Yes, it’s no surprise she’s regarded as one of the most beautiful women in the world. Breaking out on the movie scene in the early noughties, she’s since become the founder of the billion dollar company, The Honest Company (with it’s own makeup line), which she juggles with philanthropy, fashion designing, acting and family life. Having shot her latest campaign as the Braun Global Beauty Brand Ambassador, we caught up with the 35-year-old to talk all things beauty.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO BEAUTY LOOK?
I like the “no makeup” makeup look because I don’t like to look like I’m wearing a ton of makeup and I like the more youthful look. I always have cream blush, I like to use a little bit of bronzer but nothing too orange and I like it to have a bit of mica [minerals] in it, just so that it gives off a pretty bronzy glow. Concealer is a must in my life and I use a hydrating mist throughout the day to keep dewy. For lip, I tend to wear a lip gloss or a lip crayon for a pop of color.
HOW DO YOU GET RED CARPET READY?
Starting with your skin is so important, I make sure that I exfoliate, cleanse and moisturise. I actually exfoliate every day to make sure my skin is clear and I have that healthy glow and I love the Braun FaceSpa Cleansing Brush. I always make sure that I have shaved under my arms too (laughs) and apart from that I don’t prepare much more than to take a shower.
WHAT BEAUTY ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOURSELF?
Not to over tweeze my brows.
YOU’VE WORKED SO MUCH WITH LAUREN ANDERSON, WHAT INVALUABLE BEAUTY ADVICE HAS SHE GIVEN YOU?
She actually taught me about spot concealing and spot powdering. If you cake your face in powder every day to set your makeup, it’ll give you a more makeup-y look. You should just try and use it in the areas that you may have excess oil – for me it’s above my nose, between my brows, in and down around my nose, but I don’t need powder really anywhere else on my face. It’s essential to know where you actually need it.
WHAT’S THE BEST TIP YOU’VE HAD FROM A HAIR STYLIST?
I don’t use any synthetic fragrances in any of my beauty products on my skin or in my hair or makeup. If I dye my hair, I’ll put conditioner on my ends at night or use deep conditioner or hair oil in my hair and wash it out in the morning. You have to nourish hair. I love coconut oil especially when my hair was blonde.
WHO ARE YOUR BEAUTY ICONS?
DO YOU TAKE HEALTH SUPPLEMENT FOR YOUR HAIR, SKIN AND NAILS?
No, but I probably should. I just try and eat a balanced diet and drink a lot of water.
ARE THERE ANY BEAUTY TRENDS AT THE MOMENT THAT YOU HATE?
I’m not crazy about the overly filled lip. I’m sure in pictures it looks fine but in person it’s a little much.
WHAT ARE THE PRODUCTS THAT YOU ALWAYS CARRY IN YOUR HANDBAG?
I always have a lip product of some sort, I always have concealer and I always have a hydrating mist and a little mini wipe to freshen up.
WHAT IS YOUR NUMBER ONE BEAUTY TIP FOR TRAVELLING?
When I’m travelling I always bring masks either those jelly masks from Korea or Japan or I’ll bring some antioxidant mask or plumping masks that’ll wear on the plane or when I land. You get so dehydrated on planes so I try to rehydrate my skin as much as possible. Whatever I choose, I also make sure there are no synthetic fragrances in it so I don’t break out. Water is also a necessity.
