In a move befitting of his character, actor Ryan Reynolds congratulated The Avengers with a hilarious tweet of his mock rejection letter from the team.

Deadpool, although part of the Marvel universe, was not featured in the new movie The Avengers: Infinity War because the rights to his character are with Fox.

The mock rejection letter he posted was signed by Tony Stark and read:

“Re:Joining the Avengers.

No.

Absolutely not.

Go bother Prof. X.

No.”

Reynolds said in his congratulatory message, “From a guy who never knows when to quit, I’m glad you guys never did. Congrats #Avengers.” The picture he posted of his rejection letter was accompanied by a bottle of ‘pills’ (which, to be honest, seems like a bottle of TUMS).

Deadpool’s character is known for breaking the fourth wall in his movie and, much like that, Reynolds blurred the divide between Fox and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadpool can’t appear in MCU because Fox owns the rights to his character. However, talks of Disney buying a large part of Fox are underway. It seems Reynolds’ letter is a nod to that, or a humorous explanation as to why he wasn’t in the new Avengers film. We can keep our fingers crossed that we’ll see Deadpool in an official MCU movie in the future, though.

Avengers: Infinity War just opened at the box office with a bang, roping in $250m in the domestic market and beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Globally ,the film has garnered over $630 million so far. Deadpool 2, directed by David Leitch, is due for release on May 18 in the U.S. One of the new characters in the film, Cable, will be played by Josh Brolin, who also plays the antagonist Thanos in Infinity War.

Reynolds’ tongue-in-cheek tweets have become a part of the actor’s online persona. But he’s also been promoting movies he’s a fan of on his social media accounts. Just recently, he wrote a tweet urging followers to go out and watch A Quiet Place. He said he had seen the film twice in one week and then joked that Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were his new parents. He then proceeded to congratulate himself – one can only guess why.

John Krasinski replied to Reynolds’ tweet, saying, “Thank you Son. Your mother and I are so proud.”
