The critically acclaimed director told Indiewire.com: “This has been a long time coming. The ideal time would be in 2016 because it was 1996 when Trainspotting came out.”

Can’t Believe 20 years has passed.

The new film T2, will loosely adapt Irvin Welch’s sequel Porno, with Boyle’s long-time collaborator, John Hodge, at the helm of the script.

“The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don’t disappoint people.”

The original cast have all returned; Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle.
